The only synagogue on the island of Corfu to survive World War II.

In the old quarter of Corfu stands the Greca Synagogue, the only synagogue on the island to survive the bombing of the World War II. The

building dates from the 17th Century. It is floor plan is of the Venetian type with the sanctuary on the second floor. The first, or

ground floor, is reserved for community offices and common rooms. Behind the building there is a communal Sukkah as welll as a room for

preparing bodies for burial.

In Corfu today (2009) there are approximately sixty five Jewish residents.The remains of a second synagogue and the old Jewish Ghetto

still exist.
